FORCALL
SURROUNDED BY BUTTES
Forcall receives its name because of the shape of forca (hayfork), created by the rivers Caldés, Cantavieja and Morella, which converge together forming the river Bergantes. The town is surrounded by four buttes (moles) rich in landscape and wildlife: Mola Garumba, Sant Pere or Roc, Sant Marc or La Vila and Encamaràs or Roca Roja.
Capital in Roman times, the city of Lesera, located in La Moleta dels Frares, is the most important site in the province of Castellón. In Forcall, we can highlight the town centre with a large porticoed square, with buildings of great value as El Palau dels Osset, El Palau dels Fort, La Casa de la Vila or Palau de les Escaletes. Other points of interest are the Sant Josep hermitage and its Calvary, the garden and viewpoint of the river Caldés or the church known as l’Església de l’Assumpció. In Forcall we can also find the oldest baking furnace in operation in Europe.
The municipality includes religious buildings such as the shrine of la Mare de Déu de la Consolació, dedicated to the patron saint, numerous farms and locations with high interest in cultural terms, such as the dels Moros square. La Teuleria, an ancient tile factory, has been converted into an interpretation center for the wildlife and flora of the river Bergantes.
